AND SO WE WOULD LIKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BRING BACK MISS [INAUDIBLE] AND I HAVE VISITED AND WE THOUGHT MAYBE AROUND FEBRUARY OF THIS COMING YEAR TO SAY THAT THIS IS WHAT THE DESIGN WILL LOOK LIKE. THESE ARE THE STUDENT NEEDS, THIS IS THESE ARE THE STAFFING NEEDS.
AND THEN HOPEFULLY THE BOARD CAN CONSIDER SUMMER SCHOOL RATES FOR THE COMING SUMMER.
THE COLOR GUARD WINTER GUARD STIPEND HAS BEEN CLARIFIED.
SO THAT ONE 5000 STIPEND THAT THE BOARD DID RELEASE EARLY WILL COVER BOTH COLOR GUARD RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE FALL, AND THE SPRING, AS WELL AS THE WINTER GUARD RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE WINTER. I WAS TRYING TO REMEMBER IF THERE WAS ANOTHER ONE.
THAT'S RIGHT. THERE WAS A DISCUSSION LAST EVENING ABOUT THE EVENTS COVERAGE WE AND THAT WE DID VERIFY THAT THOSE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES WERE PART OF THE COMPENSATION THAT WAS NEGOTIATED FOR THAT EMPLOYEE.
SO WE DID REMOVE THAT STIPEND.

WE KNEW THAT WE DEVELOPED THAT RATE, THAT DAILY RATE BASED ON AN HOURLY RATE.
SO FOR EXAMPLE, LAST YEAR, MIDDLE SCHOOL WORKED SEVEN AND A HALF HOURS AND SO THAT SEVEN AND A HALF HOURS, TIMES $30 AN HOUR WAS $225. AND SO WE PUBLISHED $225.
AND THAT MEANT THAT 30 TIMES FIVE AND A HALF HOURS WAS 100.
AND I REMEMBER THE CALCULATION 100 AND SOMETHING DOLLARS.
AND SO WE FELT LIKE IT NEEDED TO BE CLEAR IN THE COMPENSATION PLAN IN THE FUTURE, WE SHOULD PROBABLY JUST PUBLISH THE HOURLY RATE VERSUS A CALCULATED DAILY RATE BECAUSE THAT DID CAUSE SOME CONFUSION.
AND THAT'S AN EXAMPLE OF WHY I THINK IT MIGHT BE BEST TO BRING THE RATES LATER THIS COMING YEAR.

SO I THINK GETTING SOME CONSISTENCY AROUND SUMMER SCHOOL, I'D ALSO LIKE TO SEE AND THIS IS WHAT I'M HEARING FROM TEACHERS IS THAT I SIGN UP TO WORK ALL THE SUMMER SCHOOL DAYS, BUT THEN MY KIDS ALL GRADUATED AND DID EVERYTHING.
BUT I WAS REALLY COUNTING ON THAT MONEY AND NOW I DON'T HAVE IT.
SO IS THERE SOME KIND OF WRITTEN DOCUMENT OR SOME UNDERSTANDING THAT WE CAN GIVE TEACHERS SO THAT THEY DON'T THEY DON'T SIGN UP FOR THE FOUR WEEKS, BUT THEN ONLY GET PAID FOR TWO WEEKS OR THREE WEEKS, AND THEN THEY'RE DISAPPOINTED BECAUSE THEY WERE COUNTING ON THAT MONEY.
THAT IS A PERFECT SECOND EXAMPLE OF WHY I THINK WE SHOULD WAIT UNTIL FEBRUARY.
YES, THERE WAS THAT CONFUSION THIS YEAR.
AND AS SOON AS THEY RECOVERED THEM, THEY WERE FREE FOR THE REST OF THE SUMMER.
RIGHT. MAYBE WE NEED TO INCENTIVIZE.

BUT ANYTHING WE CAN DO TO GET ORGANIZED FOR SUMMER SCHOOL BEFORE MAY, I THINK WOULD DO EVERYONE A LOT OF GOOD BECAUSE IT IS THE END OF SCHOOL YEAR, SO BANANAS AND THEN YOU HAVE ALL THE SUMMER SCHOOL STUFF.

WE DO KNOW WE MIGHT SEE SOME AMENDMENTS IN AUGUST.DISCUSS THAT. MRS. OROSCO. MR. RAU, CAN YOU JUST REFRESH OUR MEMORY AND FOR THE AUDIENCE JUST WHAT OUR BUDGET IS AND WHAT IS OUR DEFICIT PERCENTAGE AND WHAT WE HAVE IN FUND BALANCE? JUST TO HAVE THOSE NUMBERS FRESH ON OUR MIND.
MS. GLORIA, DO YOU HAVE THE COMPENSATION OR THE BUDGET DOCUMENT? AND IF YOU CAN PULL UP PAGE FIVE OF THAT DOCUMENT, I THINK THAT'S PRETTY MUCH WHAT MR. RAU'S GOING TO HIGHLIGHT.
YEAH. SO THE DISTRICT'S TOTAL BUDGET OF GENERAL FUND, CHILD NUTRITION AND DEBT SERVICES ARE THE THREE FUNDS THAT ARE REQUIRED TO BE APPROVED BY THE BOARD TONIGHT.
THE TOTAL BUDGET IS $306,575,774.
WE'RE LOOKING AT A DEFICIT IN THE GENERAL FUND OF APPROXIMATELY 11 MILLION.
SO THAT WOULD CUT THE DEFICIT ALMOST IN HALF, A LITTLE MORE THAN HALF.
OUR FUND BALANCE AT OUR LAST AUDIT WAS $71.7 MILLION.
BY ADDING AN ESTIMATED 6 MILLION TO THAT.
WE'D BE LOOKING AT ABOUT $77.7 MILLION IN FUND BALANCE.
THE DEFICIT AGAINST THAT WOULD LEAVE US IN FUND BALANCE, ABOUT 66.6 MILLION.
AND THEN ACCORDING TO OUR BOARD POLICY LOCAL, WE ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE AT LEAST 25% OF OUR CURRENT BUDGET RESERVED IN FUND BALANCE.
AND SO 25% OF OUR GENERAL FUND BALANCE IS $56 MILLION, $56.1 MILLION.
SO WE'RE ROUGHLY 10 MILLION AHEAD OF THAT.
AND THAT'S THE PAGE THAT WE HAVE UP ON THE SCREEN NOW.

BUT WHEN YOU COME IN WITH SOMETIMES SOME POSITIONS GO VACANT FOR A TIME, SOMETIMES PRICES COME IN LOWER, SOMETIMES THEY'VE COME IN HIGHER LIKE WITH OUR RECENT FUEL INCREASES FOR TRANSPORTATION.
BUT WE'RE ALWAYS LOOKING AT WAYS TO SAVE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR FOR THE BUDGET.
AND YOU TAKE A VERY SAFE APPROACH, SO IT PUTS US IN A GOOD SPOT.

WE ALSO INCREASED OUR IBCS, OUR INDUSTRY BASED CERTIFICATIONS FROM 431 TO 1062, WHICH IS AWESOME.
YOU HAVE ALWAYS BEEN SO ACCESSIBLE TO OUR STAFF.
