ALL MEMBERS OF THE BOARD ARE PRESENT, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF VICE PRESIDENT RAUL VELA, WHO IS IN ATTENDANCE AT THE UIL MARCHING COMPETITION AT BERGER STADIUM TONIGHT, AND SECRETARY COURTNEY RUNKLE, WHO IS ATTENDING THE MCCORMICK WALLACE MIDDLE SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME.

SO FIRST OF ALL, OUR ENROLLMENT AS OF MONDAY IS 23,279 STUDENTS, AND SO WE'RE STILL TRACKING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION AS FAR AS OUR GROWTH IS CONCERNED. I THINK WE'RE 182 KIDS AWAY FROM OUR DEMOGRAPHERS TOTAL THAT THEY SAID WE WOULD BE AT THIS YEAR.

SO WE'RE GAINING ON THAT THEN WANTED TO WILL ALREADY ALLUDED TO IT, BUT OUR THREE BANDS ARE AT THE REGION MARCHING CONTEST TONIGHT AND JUST WANT TO WISH ALL OF THEM LUCK.

HOPEFULLY THEY WILL ALL ADVANCE TO THE AREA COMPETITION AND WE'LL GET TO SEE THEM NEXT TIME.

SO I'M GLAD MR. VELA IS THERE ON OUR BEHALF REPRESENTING US, AND HAD MY LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL SESSION.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T KNOW, I'M A PART OF THE UNIVERSITY INTERSCHOLASTIC LEAGUE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL AND WANTED TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE ON WHAT WAS PASSED AND WHAT WAS NOT PASSED THIS TIME AT LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

SO IN THE MUSIC COMMITTEE, WE ADDED FIVE HOURS OF SUMMER REHEARSAL TIME FOR VISUAL EFFECTS TO GIVE BANDS A LITTLE BIT LONGER TO WORK OUT IN THE SUMMER, ESPECIALLY SINCE SCHOOL IS STARTING EARLIER AND EARLIER.

WE FELT LIKE THAT WAS NECESSARY.

SO IT FELT LIKE THAT WAS A GOOD ADDITION IN ATHLETICS.

WE HEARD A PROPOSAL TO ADD MEN'S VOLLEYBALL, GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL, LACROSSE AND WHEELCHAIR TENNIS, AND ALL OF THAT IS GOING TO BE STUDIED BY UIL RIGHT NOW.

WE DIDN'T FEEL LIKE THERE WAS A WIDESPREAD PARTICIPATION AMONGST THOSE SPORTS YET, AND TYPICALLY BEFORE IT MAKES IT TO THE UIL LEVEL, YOU NEED TO HAVE A PRETTY SIZABLE AMOUNT OF SCHOOLS PARTICIPATING AS A CLUB SPORT, AND WE'RE NOT QUITE THERE YET.

SO I TOLD RANDY RAU, OUR CFO TODAY, THAT HE COULD BE PROUD WE WOULDN'T BE ADDING TO THE BUDGET BECAUSE NONE OF THE NEW SPORTS PASSED THIS YEAR.

AS FAR AS ACADEMICS, WE'RE ALSO GOING TO STUDY A DRONE COMPETITION.

THE NEED FOR DRONE PILOTS ACROSS THE STATE OF TEXAS IS GROWING, AND SO THEY'RE LOOKING AT ADDING DRONE COMPETITION TO ACADEMICS, AND WE'RE GOING TO REVISIT THAT IN JUNE, AND SO I THOUGHT IT WAS A REALLY GOOD PLAY ON WORDS.

THEY'RE GOING TO PILOT THE DRONE COMPETITION TO BE BECOME DRONE PILOTS.

THE NEXT THING OUR A THROUGH F LAWSUIT THAT WE'RE PARTICIPATING IN, FOR THOSE OF YOU IN THE AUDIENCE, WE FILED TO BE A PART OF THE LAWSUIT AGAINST THE COMMISSIONER OF THE STATE OF TEXAS AND THE TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY, BECAUSE WE FELT LIKE THEY DIDN'T PROVIDE US WITH ALL THE DETAILS PRIOR TO THE YEAR LAST YEAR, AND THAT WAS HEARD BY A JUDGE, AND WE EXPECT A RULING THE WEEK OF THE 23RD.

SO I WILL KEEP YOU ALL UPDATED AS FAR AS WHETHER THAT IS FAVORABLE TO US OR NOT, AND THEN THE LAST THING I WANTED TO COMMENT ON, SPECIAL SESSION.

THE THIRD SPECIAL SESSION FOR THE STATE LEGISLATURE IS CURRENTLY IN SESSION, AND THE SENATE HAS ALREADY PASSED SENATE BILL ONE, WHICH IS THE VOUCHER BILL FOR EDUCATION SAVINGS ACCOUNT.

IF IF THE HOUSE CONCURS AND THE GOVERNOR SIGNS THAT BILL, IT WOULD MEAN THAT PRIVATE SCHOOLS WOULD COULD RECEIVE UP TO $8,000 PER STUDENT, AND THE WAY THAT IS WRITTEN IS NO MORE THAN 40% OF THE KIDS WOULD HAVE TO COME FROM FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH STATUS, 20% OF STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS OR DISABILITIES, AND THEN THE REMAINDER CAN BE KIDS THAT ARE ALREADY CURRENTLY IN PRIVATE SCHOOLS JUST TO HELP OFFSET THE PARENTS COST, AND THEN SENATE BILL TWO, WHICH IS THE EDUCATIONAL FINANCE BILL THAT'S BEING HELD HOSTAGE UNTIL VOUCHERS IS PASSED.

BASICALLY FOUR DISTRICTS WITH OVER 5000 STUDENTS, IT WOULD PROVIDE A ONE TIME PAYMENT TO TEACHERS OF $3,000.

FOR DISTRICTS THAT ARE 5000 OR LESS, IT WOULD PROVIDE A $10,000 PAYMENT TO TEACHERS, AND THE WAY RANDY AND I INTERPRETED IT WOULD BE FOR BOTH YEARS OF THE BIENNIUM, AND SO WHEN WHEN WE LOOKED AT THE MODEL FOR HAYS CISD, BASICALLY IT WOULD ADD AROUND $8 MILLION EACH YEAR, BUT 5 MILLION OF THAT WOULD GO TOWARD THE $3,000 AND FOR EACH YEAR. SO JUST KIND OF WANTED TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF WHERE WE ARE WITH THAT.

THE HOUSE HASN'T EVEN SCHEDULED A HEARING ON SENATE BILL 1 OR 2 AND DOESN'T SEEM LIKE THEY HAVE A SENSE OF URGENCY TO PASS VOUCHERS.

SO THIS THIS SAGA MAY CONTINUE FOR QUITE SOME TIME.

SO JUST WANTED TO UPDATE YOU WITH ALL THOSE THINGS, AND THAT'S THE END OF MY REPORT.

I'LL BE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS.

MISS PETREA? YEAH, AND AS PART OF THAT LEGISLATIVE PACKAGE, THE SENATE BILL, TWO.

IT DIDN'T SOUND LIKE THERE WAS AN INCREASE IN THE BASIC ALLOTMENT.

IT WAS JUST SORT OF LUMP SUM MONEY FOR SPECIFIC NEEDS.

CORRECT? THE VAST MAJORITY OF IT IS.

THE REST, I THINK, WILL RUN THROUGH THE BASIC ALLOTMENT EVEN ARE THERE SAFETY AND SECURITY MEASURES? THERE ARE SOME SAFETY AND SECURITY COMPONENTS, BUT I THINK THERE'S GOING TO BE A CERTAIN ALLOCATION, JUST NOT SURE WHAT THAT EXACT DOLLAR AMOUNT IS GOING TO BE YET.

SO THE CONTROLLER ALSO CAME OUT AND SAID THAT WE'RE IN A BETTER PLACE THAN WE WERE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE REGULAR SESSION.

SO LOOKING AT ADDING ANOTHER 1.5 BILLION TO THAT PACKAGE.

SO IT WOULD BE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF $6 BILLION FOR PUBLIC ED AND EDUCATION SAVINGS ACCOUNT IF AND WHEN THEY DECIDE TO TAKE ACTION.

OKAY, AND NOTHING ONGOING TO DEAL WITH INFLATION.

JUST A STOPGAP FOR TWO YEARS.

THAT'S RIGHT. OKAY, AND I KNOW THIS THIS BOARD HAS BEEN VOCAL WITH OUR STATE REPRESENTATIVES.

I REACHED OUT TO SENATOR DONNA CAMPBELL'S OFFICE.

THEY RESPONDED, WHICH I WAS SHOCKED BY, NOT HER, BUT HER LEGISLATIVE AIDE.

I DID SEND A VERY STRONGLY WORDED EMAIL TO HER, I HAVE TO ADMIT, AND SO FOR EVERYONE HERE AND EVERYONE'S LISTENING, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE CONTINUE TO REACH OUT TO SENATOR DONNA CAMPBELL, SENATOR JUDITH ZAFFIRINI, WHO'S IN OUR CORNER AND NOW SOUNDS LIKE STATE REPRESENTATIVE ERIN ZWIENER.

HOPEFULLY THEY WILL PUT SOMETHING TOGETHER FOR THIS PUBLIC FUNDING, PUBLIC EDUCATION FUNDING.

I WAS SURE THE GOVERNOR WAS GOING TO TRY TO STOP THE VOTE ON THE SENATE BILL TWO, BECAUSE IT WASN'T TECHNICALLY ON THE ON THE SESSION AGENDA TO TALK ABOUT PUBLIC EDUCATION FUNDING, JUST VOUCHERS.

IT WAS, AND HE CAN DO THAT, AND I FEEL LIKE THE SENATE IS GOING TO HIDE BEHIND THAT.

TO GET TO BULLY THE HOUSE INTO DOING WHAT THEY WANT, AND JUST THROWING A LITTLE BIT OF MONEY AT TEACHERS IS NOT ENOUGH.

IT'S NOT GOING TO CURB THE INFLATION AND THE INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT WE'VE SEEN THAT IT TAKES TO RUN A SCHOOL

DISTRICT AND BE COMPETITIVE AND BE INNOVATIVE AND PAY OUR UTILITIES AND PAY OUR BUS DRIVERS AND ALL THE THINGS THAT ARE REQUIRED HERE.

THE IDEA HERE IS THAT WE BUILD STUDENTS THAT CAN BE ABLE TO TALK TO THEMSELVES IN A POSITIVE WAY, TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE THEMSELVES THAT POSITIVE AFFIRMATION. WHEN THINGS ARE CHALLENGING, WHEN ASSIGNMENTS ARE TOUGH, THEY NEED TO FIND THAT RELENTLESSNESS IN THEMSELVES.

SO AS HOPEFULLY YOU GET TO SEE, WE WANTED TO BE ABLE TO SHOW YOU THE THINGS THAT WE DO TO BUILD THAT RELENTLESSNESS.

OUR STUDENTS AND OUR TEACHERS ARE WORKING INCREDIBLY HARD TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE ON POINT, AND THEY'RE READY FOR THEIR ACADEMIC CAREER.

SO ONCE THEY LEAVE RUINATION, I REALLY WANT OUR, OUR CHILDREN TO BE READY FOR SIMON AND FOR LEHMAN.

BUILDING CAPACITY AND HAVING CHILDREN HELP EACH OTHER IN PEER TUTORING AND SMALL GROUP INSTRUCTION, AND OF COURSE, OUR BLENDED LEARNING, WHERE KIDS ARE WORKING ON THEIR OWN TO CONTINUE TO INCREASE THEIR THEIR FLUENCY AND THEIR ABILITY, AND THERE IS OUR ATTENDANCE INCENTIVE FOR THE HIGHEST ATTENDANCE FOR THAT GRADE LEVEL, AND THIS IS JUST A BUNCH OF SNAPSHOTS OF OUR CHILDREN IN DIFFERENT CLASSES, CELEBRATING THEIR SUCCESSES ON THEIR CBAS AND THEIR ATTENDANCE INCENTIVES AS WELL, AND THIS IS A BULLETIN BOARD WE'VE MADE EVERY YEAR, MAKING AN IMPACT, CHANGING THE WORLD.

WE'RE THE HOME OF THE ROOS.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN OUR STAPLES FOR THE LONGEST TIME HAS BEEN THAT WE HAVE A HIGH EXPECTATION OF OURSELVES AS WELL OF OUR STUDENTS.

WE HAVE TO WE UNDERSTAND THAT TO ENSURE OUR STUDENT SUCCESS, WE HAVE TO ALSO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE WELL PREPARED AND THAT WE KNOW WHAT LESSONS ARE COMING UP, THAT WE HAVE EVERYTHING READY.

WE HAVE TO STAY TRUE TO THE PROCESSES THAT HAVE BEEN WORKING OUR INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICES, LIKE COOPERATIVE LEARNING STRUCTURES.

WE'RE STILL WORKING ON THOSE, AS WELL AS ENSURING THAT WE'RE PARTICIPATING AND HAVE FIDELITY TOWARDS THAT PLC PROCESS AND USING THE PROGRAMS THAT OUR DISTRICT HAS PROVIDED US. HERE'S A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR SCHOOL POPULATION.

WE HAVE ABOUT 787 STUDENTS IN TOTAL.

WE HAVE A MOBILITY RATE OF 13%, BUT I HAVE A FEELING THAT WE'RE GOING TO BE INCREASING.

WE HAVE CHILDREN LEAVING AND COMING ALMOST WEEKLY.

ONE THING THAT HAS KIND OF SPIKED UP THIS YEAR IS THAT WE HAVE 55 MIGRANTS ON CAMPUS.

WE HAVE MORE CHILDREN COMING FROM OUT OF THE COUNTRY THAN NORMAL.

USUALLY OUR CAP IS ABOUT 20 TO MAYBE 25 STUDENTS THAT ARE MIGRANTS, AND WE ARE IN THE MONTH OF OCTOBER AND WE HAVE 55.

WE ALSO NOTICED AND THIS TREND HAS BEEN TRUE SINCE WE'VE OPENED.

WE HAVE AT LEAST 70-75% OF OUR STUDENTS ARE EMERGENT BILINGUAL STUDENTS.

SO WE HAVE LOTS OF WE ARE VERY MUCH A BILINGUAL CAMPUS.

WE HAVE A LOT OF BILINGUAL TEACHERS.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I WAS TALKING TO, DR.

SHE IS SELECTED TO BE ONE OF THE TEACHERS THAT'S GOING TO HAVE A WEEKEND RETREAT AT THE HOLDSWORTH CENTER CAMPUS ON LAKE AUSTIN.

PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB IS A CLUB LED BY MS. KYLES AND MS. FRANK BASKETBALL CLUB WAS LED BY MR. KLIMA, OUR ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AND OUR SCHOOL NURSE.

ROBOTICS WAS LED BY OUR TECHNOLOGY TEACHER.

THESE KIDS ALL HAD A GREAT TIME AND ARE STILL PARTICIPATING IN CLUBS RIGHT NOW.

WE TRY TO PROVIDE DIFFERENT OPPORTUNITIES SO KIDS CAN LEARN WHAT THEIR HOBBIES AND INTERESTS ARE.

BECAUSE WE HAVE SO MANY OPPORTUNITIES IN LEHMAN, WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO GIVE KIDS A HEAD START TO KNOW WHAT ARE THEY TRULY INTERESTED IN? WE ALSO HAD RACKET SPORTS, WHICH IS A KILLER DUO, WHICH IS COACH MCMAHON AND HIS WIFE, MS. MCMAHON TAUGHT RACKET SPORTS.

WE HAD CRICKET CLUB AS WELL WITH MS. ROBLES AND MS. ESMERALDA NAVA AND WE HAD PROJECT BUILD, WHICH IS MS. KIEFFER, OUR STEAM TEACHER.

SO ALL OF THESE CLUBS HAVE BEEN TEACHER LED.

THEY'RE GIVING THEIR TIME TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE CHILDREN WITH THESE OPPORTUNITIES, AND I'M REALLY EXCITED TO GIVE OUR KIDS ACCESS TO THESE TYPES OF ACTIVITIES, BUT ALSO TO AWAKEN SOME SORT OF LOVE FOR SOMETHING THAT THEY WANT TO DO WHEN THEY MOVE INTO MIDDLE SCHOOL.

WE WANT TO GIVE KIDS AND GIVE KIDS THOSE OPPORTUNITIES TO START THINKING ABOUT WHAT THEY WANT TO DO AND WHAT THEY ENJOY AND WHAT THEY DON'T LIKE, RIGHT? WHETHER IT'S THROUGH CIS OR JUST ANY OTHER SOCIAL WORK, AND SO IT IS SOMETHING THAT WE CAN CONTINUE HAVING CONVERSATIONS AROUND, AND CERTAINLY I WOULDN'T BE OPPOSED TO HAVING MORE SOCIAL WORKERS ON OUR CAMPUS, WHETHER IT'S THROUGH CIS OR NOT.

BASICALLY, THEY WERE ABLE TO CREATE A MAP THAT JUST TOOK THE EXISTING NEGLEY ZONE THAT GOES ALL THE WAY OUT TO THE WESTERN EDGES OF OUR DISTRICT AND MAKE A GROUP FOR NEGLEY AND A GROUP FOR THE NEW SCHOOL AND THEN THERE'S A SMALL PORTION IN THAT 120 PLANNING UNIT, 120 THAT ACTUALLY WOULD GO FROM NEGLEY TO KYLE, AND IT'S ACTUALLY AN EASIER DRIVE.

I THINK TRANSPORTATION WAS SAYING FOR THEM TO GET FROM THERE TO KYLE ELEMENTARY.

THE ONE THING THAT YOU'LL NOTE WELL, THERE'S TWO THINGS.

ONE, THE TAN AREA THAT WOULD BE THE PROPOSED MAP FOR ELEMENTARY 16 DOES NOT CONNECT, AND THAT IS BECAUSE IN ORDER TO DO THAT, YOU WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THAT PLANNING UNIT 22 AND STICK IT IN THERE, BUT THERE ARE 7 OR 8 KIDS THAT ARE LIVING IN THERE RIGHT NOW, AND THE COMMITTEE FELT THERE'S NO POINT IN DISRUPTING THOSE STUDENTS UNNECESSARILY JUST TO MAKE THE MAP LOOK GOOD, AND SO IT'LL BE KIND OF A LITTLE POCKET.

WE'VE HAD THAT BEFORE IN OUR DISTRICT, AND IT'S NOT UNCOMMON TO SEE THAT.

THE OTHER THING IS, IN POLICY, YOU WANT TO TRY TO KEEP NEIGHBORHOODS TOGETHER.

THERE IS AND I'M LOOKING AT THAT 113 B RIGHT THERE ON THE MAP.

THE COMMITTEE LOOKED AT A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THE MAP TO TRY TO KEEP ALL OF PLUM CREEK IN NEGLEY, BUT BECAUSE THERE ARE ABOUT 250 PROJECTS, STUDENTS AT SOME POINT IN THERE, IT WOULD PUT NEGLEY BACK UP TO MORE CROWDED THAN IT IS NOW AND SO THAT WAS DRAWN IN THERE AND DOWN THE ROAD THERE IS A SITE YOU'LL SEE IN THERE, 113 A THAT IS CAN ACCOMMODATE AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AT SOME POINT IN THE FUTURE.

SO THERE'LL BE SOME WORK TO DO IN THAT AREA IN THE NEXT DECADE OR SO.

ALSO, THERE'LL BE SOME WORK TO DO, PROBABLY AROUND THE ELM GROVE AND BUDA ELEMENTARY.
