16TH. IT WAS A VERY DIFFICULT DAY FOR OUR COMMUNITY, AND IT WAS CERTAINLY A VERY DIFFICULT DAY FOR OUR CAMPUS COMMUNITIES, SPECIFICALLY LEHMAN AND HAYS. ALTHOUGH IT WASN'T CONFINED JUST TO THOSE TWO CAMPUSES.

WE FOUND THAT DUE TO THE SOCIAL MEDIA THREAT, THERE WAS REALLY A LOT OF ACTIVITY THROUGHOUT ALL OF OUR CAMPUSES WITH PARENTS BEING VERY FEARFUL.

I JUST WANTED TO LET THE THE BOARD KNOW IN OUR COMMUNITY, KNOW THAT WE HAD EXTENSIVE DEBRIEF WITH BOTH OF OUR CAMPUSES THAT WERE PRIMARILY AFFECTED WITH THAT WE HAD AT THOSE DEBRIEFS, EVERYONE FROM OUR CAMPUS MONITORS ALL THE WAY UP TO OUR LAW ENFORCEMENT PARTNERS, OUR PRINCIPALS, OUR APS, OUR FRONT DESK STAFF, THE SAFETY AND

[D. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO UNITED STATES AND TEXAS FLAGS]

SECURITY TEAM. AND WHAT WE DID IS A COMPREHENSIVE DEBRIEF OF THINGS THAT THE DISTRICT DID, THINGS THAT WE DID WELL, AND THINGS THAT WE CAN IMPROVE ON.

SO THIS EVENING I'D LIKE TO SHARE OUR TIMELINE TO OFFER A PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAM AT ELEMENTARY 16 AND 17.

I KNOW THAT IN BOARD BLOG, I JUST PROVIDED A FEW NOTES.

THERE WERE A FEW LINKS ABOUT WHAT AN IB PYP PROGRAM WOULD INCLUDE, WHAT IT WOULD ENTAIL, AND ALL THE DETAILS ABOUT ALL THE THINGS THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO LEARN.

I WILL JUST BE COMPLETELY HONEST WITH YOU THAT IT IS GOING TO TAKE A LOT OF LEARNING FROM ALL OF US.

EVERY ONE OF US IN OUR IN THIS DISTRICT IS NEW, ESPECIALLY AT THE CNI LEVEL, TO AN IB PROGRAM.

WE'VE GOT PEOPLE IN THE DISTRICT WHO HAVE TAUGHT AT AN IB SCHOOL WHO HAVE ACTUALLY LEARNED THROUGH AN IB PROGRAM.

AND SO I WANT TO TELL YOU THAT WE'RE GOING TO LEAN HEAVILY ON OUR IB NETWORK, AND ALSO OUR FRIENDS THAT HAVE ALREADY IMPLEMENTED AN IB PROGRAM.

WE KNOW THAT WE'VE GOT A VISIT SCHEDULED FOR THIS COMING THURSDAY IN ROUND ROCK, WHERE THEY'RE ACTUALLY GOING TO BE HOSTING A PYP EXHIBITION.

SO THAT'S EXCITING.

I'M NOT SURE IF JOEY PHILPOTT'S GOING TO ATTEND ON THURSDAY, BECAUSE I KNOW THAT WE'VE GOT A FEW MEETINGS ON THURSDAY, BUT I JUST WANT TO BE OPEN AND HONEST WITH YOU THAT IF YOU COULD JUST SEE MY HEART RIGHT NOW, IT IS BEYOND HAPPY AND EXCITED ABOUT OFFERING SOMETHING THAT IS SO DIFFERENT THAN WHAT WE'VE EVER OFFERED IN HAYS, CISD AND THEN BRINGING IB, I THINK WILL JUST SET UP OUR STUDENTS TO BE JUST DYNAMIC IN THE YEARS AHEAD. AND KNOWING THAT WE'LL START WITH A PYP MOVE TO AN NYP, WHICH IS THE MIDDLE SCHOOL YEARS, AND THEN THE DIPLOMA AS WELL AS THE CAREER PATH.

SO I HAVE A VISION FOR THE NEXT 12 TO 20 YEARS AT A MINIMUM, SO THAT WE CAN PROVIDE OUR STUDENTS WITH AN IB PROGRAM.

SO THAT IN ITSELF EXCITES ME SO MUCH.

SO AS WE EMBARK ON THIS, AS I SAID, WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO LEAN ON OUR FRIENDS.

WHAT IS AN IB EDUCATION? AND SO I'LL SHARE JUST SOME SOME NUGGETS OF INFORMATION THAT I HAVE LEARNED WITH YOU SO THAT HOPEFULLY YOU'LL ASK ALL THE RIGHT QUESTIONS AND WE'LL BE POISED TO GET THOSE QUESTIONS ANSWERED ABOUT WHAT WE NEED TO DO AS WE EMBARK ON THIS NEW LEARNING.

SO AN IB EDUCATION IS DESIGNED TO DEVELOP INQUIRING, KNOWLEDGEABLE AND CARING YOUNG PEOPLE WHO WILL HELP TO CREATE A BETTER AND PEACEFUL WORLD.

IT WILL BRING TOGETHER EDUCATORS WHO SHARE THAT ASPIRATION.

AND TODAY, AS A NEW GLOBAL CHALLENGE, OR AS NEW GLOBAL CHALLENGES EMERGE, AN IB EDUCATION IS MORE RELEVANT AND NECESSARY THAN EVER.

THERE IS A FORMAL PROCESS TO BECOMING AN IB SCHOOL AND I HAVE ASKED MISS PHILLPOT, MS. COLLEY AND DR.

WATSON TO RESEARCH AND DO ALL THE LEARNING SO THAT WE COULD BE POISED AND READY TO OPEN ELEMENTARY 16 AS AN IB SCHOOL.

AND SO MISS PHILPOTT WILL ACTUALLY WALK US THROUGH THAT TIMELINE TOWARDS THE END OF MY PRESENTATION.

SO. I ALSO WANT TO SHARE THAT IB EXPLORES FOR FOUNDATIONAL AND INTERRELATED ELEMENTS THAT ARE CENTRAL TO AN IB PROGRAM.

IT IS MEANT TO NURTURE INTERNATIONAL MINDEDNESS TO OFFER A BROAD, BALANCED, CONCEPTUAL AND CONNECTED CURRICULUM. THERE ARE STRUCTURED APPROACHES TO TEACHING AND LEARNING AND MOST IMPORTANT, THE IB LEARNER PROFILE, WHICH INCLUDES A LIST OF ATTRIBUTES THAT WE WANT EVERY IB LEARNER TO EMBODY.

AND SO THOSE ATTRIBUTES OF AN IB LEARNER ARE IMPORTANT TO THE PROGRAM ITSELF AS WE BUILD THIS IB PROGRAM.

AND SO WE'RE WANTING OUR STUDENTS TO BE INQUIRERS TO DEVELOP THE SKILLS FOR INQUIRY AND RESEARCH, TO BE KNOWLEDGEABLE, TO DEVELOP AND USE CONCEPTUAL UNDERSTANDING, EXPLORING KNOWLEDGE ACROSS A RANGE OF DISCIPLINES.

TO BE THINKERS, TO USE CRITICAL AND CREATIVE THINKING SKILLS TO ANALYZE AND TAKE RESPONSIBLE ACTION ON COMPLEX PROBLEMS. WE WANT THEM TO BE COMMUNICATORS AND EXPRESS THEMSELVES CONFIDENTLY AND CREATIVELY AND MORE THAN ONE LANGUAGE.

SO THROUGH THE DEVELOPMENT OF THESE LEARNER PROFILE ATTRIBUTES, AND IB EDUCATION SEEKS TO EMPOWER YOUNG PEOPLE FOR A LIFETIME OF LEARNING, BOTH INDEPENDENTLY AND IN COLLABORATION WITH OTHERS.

SO THE BEAUTY OF THE PYP IS THAT IT DOES NOT PUT LEARNING IN BOXES.

IT LOOKS AT LEARNING AS A WHOLE.

WE WANT OUR LEARNERS TO THINK AND CONNECT THE DIFFERENT BODIES OF KNOWLEDGE AS WELL AS THE IDEAS OF KNOWLEDGE.

WE WANT THEM TO CONNECT THEIR OWN LEARNING, THEIR OWN EXPERIENCES WITH THE WORLD, AND HOW THEIR EXPERIENCES CONNECT TO A CENTRAL IDEA OR CONCEPT IN ORDER TO BUILD AN OVERALL LEARNING EXPERIENCE.

TRANSDISCIPLINARY LEARNING IN THE PYP CONVEYS LEARNING THAT HAS RELEVANCE BETWEEN ACROSS AND BEYOND SUBJECTS AND TRANSCENDS BORDERS, CONNECTING TO WHAT IS REAL IN THE WORLD.

PYP STUDENTS LEARN TO APPRECIATE KNOWLEDGE, CONCEPTUAL UNDERSTANDINGS, SKILLS, AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES AS A CONNECTED WHOLE.

THEY CAN REFLECT ON THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THEIR LEARNING TO TAKE MEANINGFUL ACTION IN THEIR COMMUNITY, AND BEYOND.

SO IT'S THROUGH THIS PROCESS OF LEARNING AND THE PYP THAT STUDENTS BECOME COMPETENT LEARNERS, SELF DRIVEN TO HAVE THE COGNITIVE, AFFECTIVE AND SOCIAL TOOLS TO ENGAGE IN LIFELONG LEARNING.

SO THROUGH THE PYP, WE WILL NURTURE INDEPENDENT CRITICAL THINKERS AND COLLABORATIVE LEARNERS, ENCOURAGING EVERY STUDENT TO HAVE A VOICE, CHOICE AND OWNERSHIP IN THEIR OWN LEARNING.

SO THE BENEFIT OF OF OFFERING IB AT BOTH ELEMENTARY 16 AND 17 IS SO THAT IT CAN STRENGTHEN THE PROGRAMS BY WORKING TOGETHER, ALIGNING BEST PRACTICES AND PROCEDURES, AND DEVELOPING CONSISTENCY BETWEEN LEADERS AND EDUCATORS AT EACH OF THE SCHOOLS.

SO, AND IN THE NEXT FIVE YEARS, WE WILL NEED TO BEGIN PLANNING IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL YEARS.

WE WILL HAVE TO BEGIN PLANNING FOR THE MIDDLE SCHOOL YEARS, EXCUSE ME, AND EVENTUALLY THE DIPLOMA AND THEN CAREER PATH PROGRAMS. WE HAD AN INITIAL ZOOM MEETING WITH AN I'VE REPRESENTATIVE IN MARCH, HAD SOME CONVERSATIONS WITH DR.

WATSON AND DEREK MCDANIEL, AND THEN MET WITH IB EDUCATOR NETWORK REPRESENTATIVES ON ZOOM.

ON APRIL 17TH, TISH AND DEREK AND I WERE ABLE TO VISIT TWO ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, ONE IN LEANDER ISD AND ONE IN ROUND ROCK ISD . IN MAY OF THIS YEAR, THEY WERE VERY GRACIOUS AND OPENING THEMSELVES UP TO US IN MAY.

AND AFTER ALL THIS, WE SAID, WE REALLY NEED MS.

THE DISTRICT HAS POSTED FOR PRINCIPAL FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 16.

SO HIRING THAT PERSON LATE FALL, WE WOULD SUBMIT A LETTER OF INTENT TO IB IN JANUARY OF 20.

I'M TALKING FOR 16, FOR 17, JUST ROLL IT OUT A YEAR.

IN JANUARY OF 2024, WE NEED TO IDENTIFY AND HIRE AN IB COORDINATOR FOR THE SCHOOL.

THIS COULD BE THE SCHOOL'S INSTRUCTIONAL COACH, OR IT COULD BE A IB COORDINATOR THAT WOULD WORK BETWEEN THE CAMPUSES.

IN JANUARY, THE PRINCIPAL AND IB COORDINATOR, ALONG WITH SUPPORT FROM CENTRAL, WOULD NEED TO COMPLETE AND SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR CANDIDACY IN FEBRUARY MARCH OF 24.

THIS APPLICATION TAKES 4 TO 6 WEEKS TO COMPLETE.

THE PRINCIPAL AND IB COORDINATOR FOR THE SCHOOL WOULD ATTEND, LEADING THE LEARNING, WHICH IS A 16 HOUR TRAINING DURING THE SPRING OF 24.

ALSO DURING SPRING OF 24.

HIRE TEACHERS OR GET GET TEACHING STAFF IN PLACE FOR THE CAMPUS AND THEN THE ENTIRE STAFF WOULD BE TRAINED.

SUMMER OF 24 STAFF WOULD BE AFTER THE TRAINING WOULD BEGIN WRITING INQUIRY UNITS IN THE SUMMER OF 2024.

I THINK IN SOMETHING THAT WAS SUBMITTED TO YOU, WE SAID THE TEACHERS ARE STILL THE INSTRUCTION, THE TEACHERS ARE THE WHAT.

IB IS THE HOW.

THE IB IS HOW WE CONNECT THE ENGLISH, MATH, SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES INTO COHESIVE UNITS.

SO THE TEACHERS WOULD BEGIN WRITING INQUIRY UNITS IN SUMMER OF 24.

THE SCHOOL WOULD OPEN WILL OPEN IN AUGUST OF 2024.

SO IS IT A DIFFERENT CURRICULUM? AND BASICALLY WHAT THE LADY SAID IS THAT NO, WE USE THE WE USE THE TEKS, THE TEXAS ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS.

IT'S JUST HOW WE TEACH THAT'S DIFFERENT.
