ENROLLMENT UPDATE, WE HAVE 23,544 STUDENTS AS OF TODAY.

OUR ATTENDANCE RATE IS 93%.

AND THEN JUST WANTED TO LET THE COMMUNITY KNOW THAT THANKS TO OUR COMMUNICATION TEAM AND THE FIGHTING FENTANYL CAMPAIGN THAT WE STARTED A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO TO TRY TO MAKE OUR COMMUNITY AWARE AND THE STATE AWARE, THE NATION AWARE AND INTERNATIONAL COUNTRIES AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS THAT WE'RE HAVING WITH FENTANYL AND THE DANGERS THEREIN.

I'VE BEEN INVITED TO BY SENATOR CORNYN TO GO TO WASHINGTON DC TOMORROW, AND I'M GOING TO BE TESTIFYING IN FRONT OF SENATORS ABOUT ABOUT FENTANYL.

AND WE'RE GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT SEVERAL ISSUES.

SO I WANTED YOU TO WANTED YOU TO BE AWARE OF THAT.

AND SO WE'RE GOING TO EXPAND TO SEE IF WE CAN GET SOME FEDERAL SUPPORT AS FAR AS OUR CAMPAIGN IS CONCERNED AND HELP OTHER SCHOOLS, MAYBE EVEN WITH TREATMENT FACILITIES AND SOME OTHER THINGS TO HELP OUR FAMILIES AND OUR KIDS THAT ARE STRUGGLING WITH THAT ADDICTION AND ALSO TRYING TO PREVENT FENTANYL FROM EVEN GETTING HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE AND REALLY CONTINUING THAT FIGHT.

BUT OUR COMMUNICATION TEAM TIM SAVOY AND JERI SKROCKI HAVE DONE AN OUTSTANDING JOB OF MARKETING AND GETTING THAT OUT.

AND SO THE REASON I'M GETTING TO GO IS BECAUSE OF THEIR EFFORTS.

THIS IS MY SEVENTH YEAR AS PRINCIPAL AT LIVE OAK, AND I THINK WE'VE DONE SOME AMAZING THINGS AND SEEING THE DISTRICT'S MISSION WHOLEHEARTEDLY AND WITH ALL THE CONFIDENCE IN THE WORLD, CAN SAY THAT LIVE OAK.

THERE'S NO CAMPUS IN THIS DISTRICT THAT EMBODIES WHAT THAT MISSION SAYS AS FAR AS INDIVIDUAL EXPERIENCES AND EDUCATION THAN LIVE OAK.

A LITTLE BIT OF BACKGROUND.

EVERYBODY'S THERE FOR THEIR OWN REASON.

YOU KNOW, KIDS COME TO LIVE OAK FOR THEIR OWN REASON, BUT IT'S ALL THE SAME.

IT JUST WASN'T WORKING WHERE THEY'RE AT.

AND WE FEEL AS A STAFF, IT'S OUR JOB TO USE A PHRASE COINED BY DR.

WATSON WHEN HE GOT UP AND STARTED TEACHING ME, LET ME SAY THAT KIDS ARE DISENFRANCHIZED WITH THEIR EXPERIENCE AT THEIR OTHER CAMPUS, AND WE'VE GOT TO SOMEHOW TURN THAT AROUND AND GET THEM TO LIKE, SCHOOL AGAIN.

THAT'S WHAT WE FEEL OUR BIGGEST STORY IS.

GOT TO GET THEM TO LIKE, SCHOOL.

SO EASY MISSION, EDUCATE, ACCELERATE AND GRADUATE.

IT'S ALL ABOUT GETTING THE DIPLOMA.

AND OUR STAFF REALLY GOES OUT OF THEIR WAY TO FIGURE OUT WHATEVER THAT IS FOR THAT INDIVIDUAL CHILD.

I'VE BEEN SAYING FOR, I THINK, THE LAST 15 YEARS, IF THERE ARE 100 GRADUATES AT LIVE OAK, THEY WERE 100 DIFFERENT WAYS TO GET THERE.

NO ONE HAS THE SAME EXPERIENCE AS ANYBODY ELSE.

EVERYBODY GETS TO DO IT THE WAY THAT WORKS FOR THEM.

AND THAT'S A TESTAMENT TO THE STAFF'S COMMITMENT TO MAKING SURE THAT STUDENT IS SERVED IN A WAY THAT SUITS THEM AND GETS THEM TO THAT FINISH LINE.

OUR OBJECTIVES, EVERY STUDENT VALUE YOURSELF AND OTHERS.

EVERY STUDENT WILL GRADUATE, PREPARE TO PURSUE PERSONAL ASPIRATIONS, WHATEVER THAT IS.

I WAS JUST TELLING A PARENT TODAY IN A MEETING I WAS IN, THAT THE GREATEST THING FOR ME AT LIVE OAK IS TO RUN INTO A STUDENT 3 TO 5 YEARS LATER, WHEN THEY SIT THERE AND JUST SAID, I JUST WANT TO BE DONE.

I JUST WANT TO BE DONE. I'M DONE WITH SCHOOL.

I JUST WANT TO BE DONE.

AND THEN YOU SAY, WHAT ARE YOU DOING NOW? OH, I'M AT ACC, I'M STUDYING THIS.

AND THEN, WELL, HOW DID THAT HAPPEN? AND IT'S USUALLY WELL AFTER, YOU KNOW, THEY HAVE A CHANCE TO REFLECT.

IF I COULD DO IT AT LIVE OAK, I COULD DO IT.

I CAN DO THIS RIGHT.

AND THEY HAD THAT CONFIDENCE FINALLY TO GO BACK AND PURSUE SOMETHING.

UPDATE ON SOME NUMBERS RIGHT NOW, THESE NUMBERS ARE PROBABLY A WEEK OLD.

I FINISHED THIS A WEEK AGO, I THINK, BUT WE'VE SERVED ROUGHLY 315 STUDENTS FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR TILL TODAY.

ATTENDANCE RATE HOVERED AROUND 81%.

NOT IDEAL, BUT WHEN YOU LOOK AT NO MATTER WHO THE STUDENT IS WHEN THEY COME TO LIVE OAK, TRUST ME, THEY'RE COMING WITH ATTENDANCE PROBLEMS ALREADY.

THEY DON'T START WHEN THEY GET TO LIVE OAK.

SO 100% OF OUR STUDENTS ARE AT RISK.

100% OF OUR STUDENTS HAVE ATTENDANCE PROBLEMS BEFORE THEY ARRIVE.

AND ONE OF THE GOALS THIS YEAR WAS TO INCREASE OUR COLLEGE CAREER READINESS NUMBERS.

AND THOSE NUMBERS ARE WAY UP.

I THINK OUR TOTAL LAST YEAR WAS 19, AND AS OF RIGHT NOW, WE'RE OVER 61 KIDS WHO EITHER HAVE SOME CERTIFICATION PASSED A TEST OF SOME SORT.

TSI, WHATEVER IT IS, SO THAT THEY'RE EITHER COLLEGE OR CAREER READY.

YOU CAN SEE THE NUMBERS ON THE SIDE.

SO THIS IS SPRING OF 20.

SPRING LAST YEAR.

FALL THIS YEAR. RIGHT.

BUT IF YOU COMPARE THESE NUMBERS TO THE NUMBERS AT THE COMPREHENSIVE HIGH SCHOOLS, THEY'RE RIGHT THERE ON PAR.

AND I LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THE [INAUDIBLE] LIFERS.

YOU KNOW, A LOT OF THE KIDS WE GET HAVEN'T EVER PASSED THESE TESTS.

THEY'RE COMING IN, NOT HAVE PASSING ANY A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.

I'VE GOT ONE THAT, FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER HAD COME TO LIVE OAK AND PASSED THE TEST.

AND HE HADN'T NEVER PASSED ONE SINCE THIRD GRADE.

SO GOOD THINGS ARE HAPPENING.

LIVE OAKS. WHAT I WANT TO SAY.

OUR THING ABOUT SEL AND PBIS, THIS IS OUR COUNSELORS AND SOME OF THE, YOU KNOW, WE TRY TO GET THE KIDS INVOLVED IN SOME ON

THESE KIDS AREN'T USED TO THAT.

THEY HAVEN'T BEEN IN WHERE THEY'VE BEEN A PART OF PROGRAMS THAT DO THAT.

SO YOU KNOW, IT WON'T BE LONG.

THEY'LL BE REQUIRED TO GET THEIR 40 HOURS.

SO WE'RE TRYING TO GET A JUMP ON THAT AND DO THINGS AROUND CAMPUS.

BUT THESE TWO LADIES ARE COUNSELORS WHO SPEARHEAD SEL, AND WE DON'T LOOK AT SEL AS WHAT PROGRAM ARE YOU USING? IT'S MORE ABOUT WHAT RELATIONSHIPS ARE BEING DEVELOPED IN THE CLASSROOM.

SO WE HAVE A COUPLE OF THINGS WE DO, BUT IT'S MORE ABOUT GETTING TO KNOW THE STUDENTS, WHAT ARE THEIR NEEDS AND HOW CAN WE SERVE THEM.

WE'RE DOING A BRINGING IN AS MANY AS WE POSSIBLY CAN, PEOPLE FROM OUTSIDE, ALL THE OUTSIDE SERVICES THAT WILL COME TO LIVE OAK AND HELP SUPPORT US.

IT IS A SMALL CAMPUS.

AND YOU GOT, YOU KNOW, ONE CIS STAFF, ONE ACADEMIC COUNSELOR WHO'S ALSO TRYING TO HELP WITH THE MENTAL HEALTH.

SO WE'RE USING ALL THE SERVICES WE CAN.

I THINK THEY'RE DOING A REALLY GOOD JOB.

AND THEN 100% HAYS.

SO THIS YEAR, WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY STUDENTS WHO ELECTED TO DO UIL.

BUT WE DO HAVE OUR ARCHERY CLUB THAT WE'VE ALWAYS HAD.

AND THEN WE DO A LOT OF SPECIAL THINGS AT LIVE OAK.

AND THE PICTURE YOU SEE IS ONE OF THEM, LIKE ON THE DAY THEY GRADUATE, WE HAD THAT HAPPENED TODAY.

LITTLE GIRL GRADUATED, AND I HAVE NOT SEEN A STUDENT CRY AS MUCH AS THIS GIRL DID WHEN SHE CROSSED THE FINISH LINE TODAY.

IT WAS REALLY EXCITING.

BUT WE PUT HIM IN A CAP AND GOWN.

WE LET HIM WALK AROUND THE BUILDING.

THEY GO IN AND OUT OF THE ROOMS. KIDS ARE CLAPPING FOR THEM.

TEACHERS ARE TAKING PICTURES.

WE TRY TO MAKE A BIG DEAL OUT OF IT.

AND THIS IS MY SECRETARY WHO WILL GET THEIR PHONE AND TAKE A BUNCH OF PICTURES.

AND, YOU KNOW, WE'LL SEND THEM OUT TO MOM AND DAD, WHOEVER IT IS, WE GET IT ALL OUT.

AND SO JUST, YOU KNOW, TRY TO MAKE A BIG DEAL OUT OF IT BECAUSE SOME OF THESE KIDS ARE GRADUATING AND IT'S MONTHS, OBVIOUSLY MONTHS AWAY FROM THE CEREMONY.

SO WE MAKE SURE IF THEY RUN OFF AND THEY DON'T COME BACK, THEY AT LEAST GOT SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE, RIGHT? WE TRY TO CELEBRATE AS MUCH AS WE CAN.

IT'S A BIG DEAL.

WE GOT A TON OF FIRST GEN GRADUATES AT LIVE OAK ACADEMY.

WE DO A LOT OF STAFF APPRECIATION DAYS AND STUDENTS.

SO STAGGERING IT AND CONTINUING ENROLLMENT WE JUST GOT AND WE'RE ENROLLING ONE TOMORROW, RIGHT.

WE CONTINUALLY ENROLL KIDS ALMOST DAILY AS WE GRADUATE THEM, BRINGING MORE IN AND KEEPING THAT ENROLLMENT TO A NUMBER WHERE THE TEACHERS CAN REALLY BE EFFECTIVE.

WHAT IS THE PROJECTED ENROLLMENT? REMIND US WITH THE CONSTRUCTION EXPANSION, I WOULD THINK IT COULD GO TO 400 DOUBLE IN SIZE.

RIGHT. BUT YOU HAVE SOME CONCERNS, IT SOUNDS LIKE ABOUT IF WE GET TOO BIG, JUST DON'T KNOW.

JUST DON'T WANT TO DO IT ALL AT THE SAME TIME.
