FIRST OF ALL, I WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU, WE HAD OUR THIRD ANNUAL STRING FESTIVAL TODAY AT THE PARK AT 12:15, AND IN A MERE FIVE YEARS, WE'VE PROGRESSED FROM ABOUT 35 BEGINNING ORCHESTRA STUDENTS TO 300 ORCHESTRA STUDENTS.
FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT GOT TO ATTEND, I SAW SEVERAL OF YOU THERE, THEY SOUNDED REALLY GOOD.
THESE ARE KIDDOS THAT DON'T KNOW HOW TO PICK UP A VIOLIN OR A CELLO OR WHATEVER THEY CHOOSE TO PLAY.
THE FIRST WEEK, THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO READ MUSIC, AND THEN WHAT THEY PLAY ABOUT SEVEN SONGS OR SO, AND THEY ACTUALLY SOUNDED REALLY GOOD.
WE HAVE THE IDEA, OF COURSE, I DIDN'T COME UP WITH THE IDEA.
A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAD ORCHESTRA, BUT HAD A LOT OF PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY AND THE BOARD SAW THAT IT WAS SOMETHING THAT OUR COMMUNITY WAS PASSIONATE ABOUT AND THAT OUR KIDS WOULD GRAVITATE TO.
IN A MERE FIVE YEARS, WE HAVE NOT ONLY 300 BEGINNERS, BUT WE HAVE 200 SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADERS AND 100 NINTH AND 10TH GRADERS FOR A TOTAL OF 600 STUDENTS IN ORCHESTRA IN FIVE YEARS, SO PAT YOURSELF ON THE BACK FOR THAT ACCOMPLISHMENT.
[APPLAUSE] NEXT, BARBARA. TODAY, OUR HAYS HEAT, AND I SEE A COUPLE OF HAYS HEAT SHIRTS IN THE AUDIENCE, THEY GOT TO COMPETE IN BOWLING, I BELIEVE, OVER IN SAN MARCUS, AND THEY HAD A GREAT TIME, AND I THINK THEY DID VERY WELL FROM THE REPORT I GOT, AND SO I WANTED TO FEATURE THEM.

I THOUGHT THEY WERE INCREDIBLE.
I WAS SITTING UP IN THE PRESS BOX WITH SOME OF THE JUDGES AND I'M LIKE, "WHY DIDN'T WE WIN AT ALL?" I GOT THE SCOOP SO I CAN SHARE IT WITH OUR BAND DIRECTORS IN THE FUTURE, BECAUSE I'M JUST A LITTLE COMPETITIVE, BUT WE HAVE 247 SCHOOLS IN CLASS 5A, SO REALLY, IT MADE ME FEEL A LOT BETTER WHEN I PUT IT INTO THOSE TERMS. WE FINISHED 18 OUT OF 247 SCHOOLS, SO CONGRATULATIONS TO THE HAYS HAWK BAND.

WE RECENTLY SUBMITTED OUR DATA SUBMISSION FOR THE 23-24 DATA CAPTURE YEAR IN OCTOBER.
WE WILL GET WORD IN FEBRUARY FROM TEA ON WHETHER WE HAVE BEEN APPROVED IN THAT DATA SUBMISSION, BUT AGAIN, THOSE STANDOUT NUMBERS IN THE EXEMPLARY LEVEL AND MASTER TEACHER LEVEL.
WITH THAT DATA SUBMISSION, 99 TEACHERS INCREASED THEIR TIA DESIGNATION, AND THAT REALLY SHOWS THE HARD WORK AND COMMITMENT OF OUR HAYS CISD TEACHERS TO INCREASE THEIR STUDENT GROWTH.
WITH THAT APPROVAL, WE WOULD HAVE 59% OF OUR TIA ELIGIBLE TEACHERS EARN A TIA DESIGNATION.
IF APPROVED IN FEBRUARY, OUR GRAND TOTAL OF TIA-DESIGNATED TEACHERS WILL BE 381.
THESE EXCITING NUMBERS THAT YOU SEE HERE, OVER $3.7 MILLION WILL BE THE ESTIMATED FUNDING FOR THIS GROUP OF DESIGNATED TEACHERS.
FOR THAT THREE-YEAR TOTAL, THEY WOULD HAVE EARNED OVER $6.4 MILLION TOWARDS THEIR COMPENSATION.

AGAIN, WE HAVE A LOT OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS THAT THEIR GYMS. THEIR SOUND SYSTEMS ARE NOT WORKING CORRECTLY.
ONE SIDE BENEFIT FOR US TAKING CARE OF THESE SOUND SYSTEMS IS THAT WE ARE NOW RENTING OUT OUR SCHOOLS.
WHEN WE HAVE GOOD SOUND SYSTEMS THAT ARE FUNCTIONING IN SOME GOOD DIRECTIONS, WE CAN MAYBE EXPLORE THOSE OPTIONS FOR LONG TERM CUSTOMERS, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY'RE SIGNING LONG TERM CONTRACTS WITH THE HAYSCISD.

IN PHASE 3, THE FOCUS TURNS TO STANDARDIZATION THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT.
AS WE'RE INSTALLING THE SYSTEMS, WE'RE GOING TO STANDARDIZE ON THE EQUIPMENT AND THE PROTECTION.

MORE OPTIMISTIC, AND WE HAVE THE RIGHT PEOPLE IN PLACE THAT NOW WE ARE GOING TO GET IT SOLVED ONCE AND FOR ALL, I DON'T LIKE MICROMANAGING TO THE POINT WHERE WE ARE HAVING JUST DESIGNATED PEOPLE THAT CAN ONLY OPERATE THE SYSTEM.
I'M HOPEFUL THAT WE HAVE TECHNOLOGICAL UPGRADES THESE DAYS THAT ALLOW IT TO BE A LITTLE BIT MORE USER FRIENDLY.
